A Dutch scoop by Sunprojects

Normally, in solar parks, direct current from solar panels is converted to alternating current and delivered to the public grid. Next, this power goes to a customer. During this process of conversion and transmission, energy is lost.

Sunprojects has pioneered a Dutch, perhaps international scoop. As of 2021, Solarpark 'het Oor', located in The Hague, will feed the generated power through a direct line into HTM's AC grid.

This will allow a number of streetcars to run on the power, which comes from direct supply of the 4,700 solar panels, with a capacity of 1.5MWp.

According to Hans Lambrechts, director of Sunprojects, this could be "a breakthrough to create a new standard for feeding renewable power directly into rail networks", or sustainable rail.
