Carport city hall is to learn from

The past period has been hard at work on the realization of the Solar Carport at the town hall on the Emmalaan. In consultation with residents, the location parallel to the Emmalaan was chosen. A total of 145 panels have been installed which will generate approximately 40.000 kWh per year. This energy is used directly by the town hall and delivered back behind the meter.

By covering a number of parking lots and installing solar panels, the municipality wants to investigate whether parking and electricity generation can be applied to multiple locations on the island. The largest and most obvious parking areas on Texel are the large-scale parking facilities in and near the villages and the beach areas.

The intention is to learn from this covered parking lot. What are the effects of a solar car park in the public living environment? And what is the energy contribution, for example? In addition, we are looking at application and exploitation possibilities for residents and businesses.

We are currently looking into the possibility of realizing a charging point so that residents and the municipality can make use of the sustainably generated energy. After all, on Texel too, sustainable mobility is one of the spearheads of the policy for the coming years.
