Solarpark Wijnjewoude Energie Neutraal

With the project Energiepark WEN the local energy cooperative Wijnjewoude Energie Neutraal together with Sunprojects has taken an ambitious step to make the village energy neutral. By placing solar panels on the field next to a former sewage treatment plant (RWZI), the energy park generates green electricity as well as green gas.

What are the determining factors for this successful project:
- The site lends itself particularly well to the generation and storage of green energy due to its location and industrial power connection.
- Reuse of the former sewage treatment site not only promotes sustainability. It also saves costs and the development into an energy park is fully in line with the national policy for sustainable redevelopment of former sewage treatment plants.
- Support of the initiative by the local population of Wijnjewoude and being able to jointly benefit from the revenues that benefit the village

Sunprojects looks back on this inspiring example of how local initiatives can contribute to the energy transition.

In total, we were able to install over 1,600 solar panels that will generate over 962,000 kWh annually. The output of this is roughly equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 334 Dutch households. In addition, 625,000kg of CO² emissions are avoided annually.
