AFAS Stadion - 0,8 MWp

ALKMAAR - The renovated AFAS Stadium has chosen to make a sustainable investment by fitting its roof with solar panels. The solar panels have been installed and distributed across the four stands of the Alkmaar home ground.

The project is not only sustainable and environmentally friendly, but also carefully planned and executed. When installing the solar panels, careful consideration was given to the distinctive 'steel arches' on the roof. The arches of these components have a shadow-causing effect on the solar panels. This created an additional challenge.

To ensure that the loss of energy yield due to shadow is minimised, we used optimisers per two panels! This way, the yield can be guaranteed and the system continues to perform optimally. Also, in the event of a failure, the system immediately returns to a safe voltage of 1 Volt.

The AFAS Stadium project is an excellent example of how we can realise sustainable energy projects with an eye for detail and expertise. In terms of sustainability, this project is a great step forward for AZ Alkmaar. A great example for other sports facilities that also want to invest in sustainable energy. Sunprojects is therefore very proud of the result achieved in collaboration with our partner AZ.

A total of 2,042 solar panels have been installed on the new roof of the AFAS Stadium. These solar panels have a total capacity of 796,000 kWp and can generate more than 720,000 kWh of green energy annually. This means they reduce their CO2 emissions by 468,000kg per year. This is roughly equivalent to an annual CO2 offset of 21,500 trees
